With us being 2 months into training our athletes, by far the biggest issue we’ve seen, when our hitters are faced with real velo, is timing.
The more time we can create, the more adjustable our swings are going to be. As a result, being able to “create time”, becomes a must.
One of our favorite ways to work on this concept is “swings from zero”.
When we start with our feet together, we are forced to be able to flow into our load, and through our launch. Any breaks in the flow of energy we are trying to create, becomes readily apparent.
By forcing ourselves to start, and then have continual movement, we can learn how to “create time” within the window between the start of your forward move, and the launch of your swing.
The pitching machine will bring to light hitters that struggle with creating time. Many feel they have to be perfect in order to square the ball up, when in reality, they should be able to create time within their load, to adjust to whatever minor variations may occur. It’s a great tool to test the effectiveness of your hitting protocol, and it is something we use with our hitters nearly everyday.
