As @pitchingninja is fond of showing, hitting is one of the most difficult tasks in all of sports. Not only do we need to be able to hit a ball consistently 100+, but we also have to be able to do so off of various pitch speeds and sequences.
Understanding this fact, cleaning up movement patterns is only half the battle. If we never challenge those movement patterns in a way that is as, or more, difficult than a game, we will never truly be able to to test and maximize our potential as hitters.
Anytime you make a change or adjustment you believe will positively affect your results, you should always test it in a game-like situation. While we have a Homeplate Sports Tudor machine that allows us to do that in-house, it’s not necessary.
You can do shortboxes, hit live, move forward and back off a normal pitching machine, Anything you can do that is going to challenge your timing is going to be a positive when testing whether the movement changes you made are actually going to stick and transfer over to better production in-game, when it actually matters.
